In a twist on the Hollywood formula, this Western follows the less-than-honorable actions of Santee (Rory Calhoun), a cynical bounty hunter who schemes with local crime boss Kile (Lon Chaney Jr.) to ruin an idyllic frontier town in exchange for a lucrative railroad contract. But when the gambling, prostitution and other vices he instigated hit close to home, the scurrilous lawman has a change of heart.
