This television production of the famous 1980s stage play is a slightly ironical description of the colony of German artists in Los Angeles who had to leave their country during the Nazi-regime. A young playwright (von Horvath) joins them and finds out that there are gaps between the artistical attitudes and the real behaviour of authors like Thomas and Heinrich Mann, Lion Feuchtwanger or Bertolt Brecht.
